Themelis Glynatsis

Themelis Glynatsis was born in Athens in 1978. He studied drama, comparative literature and classics in the UK. He has directed Lorca’s Blood Wedding (Old University, Athens, 1998), Heiner Müller’s Medeamaterial (King’s Head Theatre, 2001), Stravinsky’s A Soldier’s Tale (Guildford International Music Festival, 2001), Müller’s Hamletmachine (Studio Theatre, 2002), Mallarmé’s Hérodiade (Theatro Technis, London, 2003), Electra Landscape (Delphoi Festival, 2004), and Müller’s Bildbeschreibung (Entropia Theatre, Athens, 2005). In 2006, he adapted a myth from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, which was performned at Argo Theatre. In the same year, he directed Koltès’ The Night just before the forests in the pedestrian underpass, Pedion Areos, Athens. The following year, he continued his work on Koltès and directed In the solitude of the cotton fields (Aplo Theatre, 2007). In 2008, alongside Yiannis Kotsonis and Vaggelis Mousikas, he founded Knot Arts, a non-profit arts organisation, which produces and promotes exprimental theatre and music. In 2009, Knot presented their first collective performance, Igitur, by Stéphane Mallarmé. He was part-time lecturer at the University of London (2003-2004), and cotninues to gives lectures at the universities of Athens and Thessaloniki.
